Print a Web Page Cleanly: Preview, Margins, and Scale

Web pages are designed for screens, so a direct print can include extra navigation, ads, or clipped columns. Browser options differ, but a few preview checks can help you get a cleaner print.

Preview before printing

Open the browser's print preview and review the page count and layout. If your browser offers a reader or simplified view, compare it with the regular page before printing.

Check page size and scale

Choose paper size and orientation that match the paper loaded in the printer. If content extends beyond the page, try a fit or shrink option and review the margins. Use page ranges to print only the sections you need.

Decide whether to include backgrounds

Some pages rely on background colors or images, while others don't. Preview the result with backgrounds enabled or disabled and choose the option that preserves necessary information without adding unwanted color coverage.

Print one test page

Check the first sheet for clipped text, small type, and extra pages before printing the rest. If output quality is the problem rather than layout, use a printer test page and review supply messages.

Before replacing ink, verify your printer model and cartridge number with our guide. Browse HP printer supplies, Canon ink cartridges, or Lexmark ink cartridges after checking the exact product match.
